Color Descriptions in alt Text
I’m loving the new AI automated alt text in the media library! It does a pretty good job with the descriptions! I do question if it is good or bad to include descriptions of colors – in case blind people have no concept of what colors are. But partially blind or formerly seeing people would.
Specifying color can provide information without having experience with color. For instance, saying that leaves are brown or red. It’s probably universally understood that leaves are supposed to be “green” even if you don’t see green.
Nebraska Today Tags
Are there steps that have to be taken before the new Nebraska Today Tag feature will work in the News Aggregation popup? And can you enter more than one tag?
It should just be good to go. However, it is not importing tags for existing items that are already on the site. [Eric] can wipe all the items on a site if you want so it can re-import them.
Errors When Downloading All Entries of a Webform
I keep getting an error code when trying to download/ export all of the entires for this Webform. I’m assuming it’s because it’s beefy/has a bunch of entries, but just want to make sure.
Make sure the download format is “.zip” and not “.tar” and try it again. That was just fixed but the fix is only for “.zip.” [Eric will] look into forcing that to be the selection on that field.

CMS updates
- AI-generated alt text on images
- UNL CMS now uses AI to automatically generate alt text for images uploaded through the WYSIWYG editor, or on any heros or components. You will still have the ability to further edit the caption once it is created, but the AI generated alt text should create a good baseline for working with.
- Moving to Drupal 11
- Waiting on a MySQL database update, then sites will be moved into Drupal 11 either later this month or early in June. Will be no major functionality changes, but will have some updates / new features added once in the new system.
Pending review and deployment
Public Information Apps updates
- Web Accessibility Evaluator – PDF accessibility scanning has been added and is automatically crawling sites.
Framework updates
The 6.0 migration guide has moved to the GitHub repo Wiki. Additional documentation will be added in the near future.
Version 6.1 scheduled for deployment this afternoon, Tuesday, May 26.
- On mobile, the toolbar will “float” above the content, no longer attaching to the viewport edges. This will be accompanied by animated transitions between open and closed states.
- On desktop, call to action links (Visit / Apply / Give) will move from the navigation back to their previous location in the global header. However, sites that don’t include optional localized call to action links (e.g., "Visit the College of Arts and Sciences”) will no longer activate popup menus. Instead, the links will point directly to the general university pages for their respective calls to action.
- Across all browser viewport widths, “Log In” will be renamed “My UNL.” When the My UNL dialog is opened, login and logout options will be displayed as buttons not links, providing improved clarity to these actions. Canvas links are also redesigned to better match the style of the other services listed.
