Shared Governance Board update

  • Next-Gen CMS Performance Fixes implemented
  • Off-campus map embeds now supported
  • Discussion of MS PowerBI graphs embed support
  • Reminder: Sites not switched over to D10 by December 12 will automatically have their subdomains pointed to their new sites starting on that date
  • Reminder: Final shutdown of Drupal 7 is Thursday, December 19 at 10 a.m.

CMS Transition Report

  • December 12: Deadline to switch new site live in Next-Gen CMS
  • December 19: Shutdown of all D7 sites at 10 a.m.
  • Next-Gen CMS Progress Report
  • 663 sites created in Next-Gen CMS, 383 sites are now live in Next-Gen CMS (was 314). 280 sites are under development and have not yet gone live.

Slacktivity

  • Learn More: generally, avoid using this as a link title as it contains no "information scent;" much like "click here," it should be avoided. Each link (or button) should have unique text that succinctly describes the content of the linked page.
  • Primary nav bar not dropping down in new CMS is usually due to having unpublished a page that has “Provide a menu link” checked under the Menu settings.
  • Reminder: Consult CMS Documentation; if you are inclined to do any work on your sites over the break, please refer to the documentation and the training videos rather than messaging WDN Slack or emailing other university employees. Emergency contacts only during the holiday closedown, please.

WebAudit Metrics

  • https://webaudit.unl.edu/groups/unl/; all up this month!
  • WATCH YOUR LINKS! Sites are going live, and addresses to specific pages may change. CMS sites have a built-in page (Reports → Top 'page not found' errors) that shows a list of URLs that users are visiting that result in Not Found being shown.

Framework updates

  • Update 5.3.54 - deploying tomorrow afternoon Wednesday, December 11 - Updates GSAP library
  • Framework Version 6: deploys Tuesday, July 8, 2025

Analytics Updates

  • Action Required! Google Analytics Update - Not just CMS sites, everyone using GA needs to do this
    • Background: By default, GA adds a cookie for all of unl.edu. This results in users having a buildup of a lot of cookies when they have browsed a lot of UNL sites. This can cause errors when their browser tries to send all the cookies. Solution: Add a dimension called "cookie_domain" that is set to your site's domain, such as mysite.unl.edu/

Public Information Apps Updates

  • WebAudit did not formerly report the status code of pages accessed through a redirect. It does now, and Link Checker scores will likely decrease for some sites until these newly-flagged links are fixed.
  • Google (once again) changed the colors of the base map in UNL Maps. This time, we think it looks pretty good with the existing layers we have on top of it.

Next-Gen CMS updates

  • For emphasis, your site needs to be live by December 12, 2024

Reminder: Next-Gen CMS - D7 is shutting down Dec. 19, 2024 at 10 a.m., sites should go live in D10 by December 12 to allow clear path for shutting down
